Accountability

I exhort the elders among you… shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. (1 Peter 5:1-3)

In general terms, church leaders are accountable before God and men to oversee the equipping of the body to love and serve both God and others, as well as to role model love and service. Their ‘sheep’ should know this ‘job description’ and in love hold them to…

  • prayer (Acts 6:4; Rom. 12:9-18; Eph. 6:18; Col. 4:1,2)
  • teaching (Acts 17:11 - Bereans; 1 Cor. 14:29 - passing judgment; 2 Peter 2:1 - false teachers)
  • equipping (Eph. 4:11-13)
  • shepherding (John 21:16; Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:2)

Hope’s leaders are to have accountability relationships and are to be available to member’s concerns.
